Tolosa and the rural and urban areas of Tolosaldea have been of great importance to the world of cider. At the start of the 20th century, there were 28 cider houses in the town of Tolosa. 

Some of these cider houses were presses and others sold cider. During that era, oxen transported apples in sacks or cider in barrels.

An example of all this history is the Txaparro cider house on Calle Lechuga de Tolosa, belonging to the Garikano brothers and it is still preserved from that era.

During Cider Fest, an event to recognise cider and its importance, several special initiatives are carried out:

tastings, product presentations, guided visits, special ciders from Tolosaldea and the Basque Country, international ciders...
